Tosyns Ten 10s… My valentine weekend of life Editor

By Tosyn Bucknor

The Valentine Weekend was one that felt like a National Holiday. There were so many events slated for the period but I’m focusing on three main ones because Banky W, Maxwell and Darey all gave me a Valentine Weekend to remember!

10. I’d hire Seyi Law over and over and over again. He’s too funny for his own good! He was the host at Banky W’s event.

9. It was hard to miss the Wizkid statement (deliberate or otherwise) at the Banky W concert. He came (yippee) but sat with his manager, about three rows back.

8. Red Carpet work… E no easy o!

Not for the presenters nor for the guests. There are like what? Twenty cameras at the least (video) and twenty more (still). And each one wants you. As for those doing the interviews, you want all the celebrities to speak with you. So you’re speaking with celeb A and spying with your eye, all the others you want to speak with.

7. Timi Dakolo‘s voice.. Every time I hear him sing, I marvel. His voice is powerful, clear and beautiful. If he doesn’t win more ‘best male vocalist’ awards, it would be a travesty.

6. And Waje

The things she does with her voice… It is so effortless. I’ve never heard Waje sing an off note or run out of breath.

5. There’s more to being on a stage than just singing as proved by Banky, Maxwell and Darey. All three acts owned their stages. Banky had the dancers and little skits, Maxwell covered the length and breadth of his stage with calculated moves and even the odd dance step or two, and Darey… Well Darey had sand artists, dancers, acrobats and ten thousand costume changes.

4. Naija Time no matter what?

It seems there is no artiste, nor type of event that can ensure an event starts at the advertised time.

If the organisers get their act today, the audience don’t. When the audience do, the organisers don’t.

What’s the solution?

Start a show at the advertised time even if it’s only one person seated?

3. The return of Boyz II Men

Or as we call them here, Praiz, Banky W, Timi Dakolo, Tolu and Darey.

Together, they covered two Boys to Men songs at Darey’s #LLAM show and now that they’ve done this, I want more!

Like they need to do an album together, then a show together, then a video together, then… No, for real.

2. Live Band (no)Overdose!

There were three concerts and three live bands. And it didn’t get tiring. Event organisers and Venues must look into creating some kind of live vibe for their events now. And performers may want to incorporate more live elements.

It can be done folks!

We have proof

1. Three events… Three looks… Three outfits…

Thanks for the fab music guys but let’s not do this again!
